      • Prohibition introduced in the 18th amendment in 1919 banned the production, transportation and sale of alcohol

      • Speakeasies gave alcohol to the public and allowed gambling and prostitution
      • 1-12 prohibition agents were corrupt and allowed bribes
      • Izzy Einstein and Moe Smith were the best prohibition agents of the time, they had the most number of arrests and convictions

      • Sacco and Vanzetti were two italian anarchists who were convicted of robbing a shoe factory and killing a guard, during their trial the judge made racist remarks against the two men and were sentenced to death. After their deaths they were pardoned due to lack of evidence and the judge being racist.

      • KKK activity rises in this time due to Jim crow laws and films such as Birth of a nation
      • Increase in public lynching
      • Thomas Shipp and Abram Smith were two black brothers that were arrested for allegedly ****** a white girl, the mob arrived at the prison were the boys were being held, they mob were free to take them, after beating the boys to near death they were lynched in public in front of a large group of people

      • Women could join the KKK, but only if there husbands were in the Klan
      • The lives of women changed during the 20’s

      • Didn’t have to do as much housework as more goods were released that helped women clean

      • The Red scare was a promotion in 1917 to spread the fear of a potential rise in communism
      • Films such as ‘Invasion of the body snatchers’ were used as negative metaphors against communism
      • The red scare started to reappear in the 50’s due to the Cold war between America and the USSR
