    • Steinberg + Sykes : endorphin hypothesis 1985,
      • idea that sustained exercise produces beta endorphins in response to stress on the body
        • Take home message = exercise increases euphoria

      • test has 65 items, scale of 1 - 5
      • BRUMS : short version of POMS

    • Peacock - green exercise
      • local MIND group completed 2 walks, one in shopping centre, one in countryside
        • results - outdoor walk reduced 5 negative mood states
          • Take home message = green exercise improves mood
    • Boecker : support endorphin hypothesis
      • Analysed PET scans of German male runners before and after 2hr run
        • Also used Visual Analog Mood Scale
    • LEWIS ET AL - Parkinsons disease + dancing
      • aim - see effect of a dance session on mood in elderly people with PD
        • Procedure - 10 min warm up, 30 min dance, 5 min break, 5min cool down
          • Long cycle - 12 weeks, 10 dance sessions
          • Short cycle - 1 dance session in 9th week
      • Results - Anger and tension significantly reduced, TMD reduced, those with depression report less fatigue
        • Take home message - dancing increases mood
