    • 2. NKVD reorganised and Yagoda replaced 1936 PURGE OF THE ARMED FORCES
      • 3/5 marshalls dismissed
      • All naval admirals shot
      • All bar one pilot
      • 1/4 commissioned officer corps
    • 3. Mass murder THE PURGE OF THE PEOPLE
      • 1 in every 8  arrested
      • people turn in friends family to protect themselves
      • NKVD had quotas of people to remove
    • Results
      • political and social weapon
      • 1933-1944 one million arrested
      • 1937 7/8million sent to labour camps
      • 1939 - 1million shot
