    • How does it work?
      • The researcher identifies two groups of people that are alike except for one variable they are interested in
      • They then compare the two groups to see if this one difference between them has any effect
    • E.G - Durkheim s Study on suicide
    • Advantages
      • no Ethical issues
      • can study the past
      • Avoids artificiality
    • Disadvantages
      • Gives the researcher less control
    • Favored by Positivists
