- Ecclesia and Ephors
- The Ecclesia was the Spartan assembly. Any man over thirty was welcome.
- The Ephors were 5 men elected by the rest of the assembly, but could only serve for a year
- The Ephors presided over the Ecclesia, supervised the performence of the kings, acted as judges in some law cases, dealt with foreign ambassadors, declared war on the Helots once a year and ran the education system

- 30 men. The two kings and 28 other men over 60- the 28 other men acted as advisors for the king.
- They met monthly and listened to the views of the ephors and the kings and had to vote for/against them
