- She doesn't self-identify as a victim, Offred know that this was a choice, rather than choosing to go to the Colonies (to save herself)
- Her character is consistent, we are constantly put into her shoes - she is intelligent and compassionate
- Negative Qualities
- When Offred is reunited with Moira, she sees the rebel she idolised conforming to the system
- Offred is only able to fantasise about wanting to escape or commit suicide or murder, she never acts on her thoughts
- Her curiosity/freedom for desire ends in her downfall
- She won't do anything to risk her life if it doesn't benefit her
- She is emotionally compromised when she learns that her daughter is still alive
- 'Where I am is not a prison, but it is a privilege'
- 'I never looked good in red, it's not my colour'
- 'I hunger to commit the act of touch'
