  • Tectonic Hazards
    • Volcanoes
      • Sheilds
        • mauna loa
        • Found at constructive margins
        • gently sloping sides, runny lava
      • Composite
        • Mount Rainer
        • Round at destructive plate margins
        • Steep sides,sticky lava . Violent eruption
    • Plate Margins
      • constructive
        • Where rising magma adds new material to plates that are diverging or moving apary
      • Destructive
        • Two plates are converging or converging or coming together and oceanic plate is subducted
      • Conservative
        • Where 2 tectonic plates slide past each other
    • Hazard risk
      • LIC- less money for 3Ps so higher risk
    • Earthquakes
      • LIC- Haiti , January 12th 2010
        • The Haiti earthquake centred just 10 miles southwest of the capital city, Port au Prince and the quakes was shallow- only 10-15km bellow the surface. The event measured 7.0 on the Richter Magnitude scale
      • HIC- Kobe, January 17th 1995
        • The Kobe earthquake was 20km southwest of the city and the focus was only about 16km below the surface. 10 million people live in this area. This event was 7.2 on the Richter scale.
  • High population in an area prone to hazard means high risk
