  • Stresemann & RECOVERY
    • in 1923 he created the RETENMARK. This stabilised the currency and there was confidence in it
    • in 1924 the retenmark converted into the REICHSMARK which was backed by gold
      • This restored the value of germany money
    • THE DAWES PLAN 1924
      • Reps would be 1 billion marks the first year and increase to 2.5 billion over the next 4 years
      • Agreed French would withdraw from the Ruhr
      • USA would give loans to Germany
    • THE LOCARNO PACT 1925
      • Improved relations with BRITAIN, FRANCE, BELGIUM & ITALY
        • Restored Germany's prestige and gained co operation. Marked Germany's return to the international scene.
      • Agreed to keep existing borders between the countries
      • LOCARNO HONEYMOON
    • 1928 KELLOG BRIAND PACT
      • 64 other nations signed to agree that they settle disputes peacefully
      • keep armies for self defence
    • 1929 YOUNG PLAN
      • Set a timescale and reduced reps
      • France left Rhineland early
    • Overall politics became more stable, unemployment fell, extremist parties were less popular, new roads, railways and homes were built and Germany became a major exporter
