      • in the last 500 years the Church has become worldwide
        • missionaries from Europe travelled to Africa, South America and Asia to start Churches
      • the focus of modern evangelising is to bring people back to the teachings of the Gospel, as most people know about Jesus, yet the society of the UK is increasingly secular

      • the best way to evangelise is to show love to one another and fight for social justice
      • 'We need a Church which is for the poor, the Church needs a special love and care for the poor and the sick but also those who are despised and overlooked.

      • the parish is also important in spreading the message of the Church
        • parishes are welcoming places, ready to receive new people into their community
        • schools are essential as this is where young people learn the Gospel
    • Salvation
      • through Jesus' death and resurrection, we can all achieve salvation
      • 'I am the way, the truth and the life.  No one comes to the Father except through me' - Jesus
        • this is why evangelising is important as it helps people to go to heaven
      • 'In my Father's house there are many rooms.' - Jesus
        • this suggests that you do not have to know about God to go to heaven
    • How does the Church evangelise?
      • Locally
        • the parish can spread the Gospel in many ways
        • it offers youth groups, social events, sacramental programmes, charity work and bible study, which all spread the word of the Gospel
        • parishes may also work with other faiths to bring society together
        • each diocese will have a Catholic newsletter
      • Nationally
        • there are national Catholic newspapers which reach out to an audience weekly
        • an example of this is the 'Catholic Herald'
        • the national bishops conference helps Catholics to know and share the Gospel
      • Globally
        • the Catholic Church is a global presence including through social media
        • international charities like CAFOD demonstrate the Gospel
        • events such as World Youth Day reach out to young people as they are the future of the Church
    • Evangelising in the UK
      • there are problems in such a diverse society as people don't want to be preached at to convert
      • Christianity is still the largest faith in the UK, but some Churches face closure due to lack of congregation and lack of priests
      • diversity means that we can learn from other faiths and understand our own faith better
      • the Church teaches that we should respect other faiths
      • UK laws
        • UK traditions
          • UK festivals
            • school holidays are focussed around Christian festivals
            • Christmas is very commercial
            • other religious festivals are celebrated, eg Edi-al-fitr
          • shops have restricted opening hours on Sundays
          • in court witnesses swear on a Bible or Holy Book and many people marry in a Church
        • the Queen is head if the state and supreme governor of the Church of England
        • for laws to be passed in the UK, they must go through the House of Lords which contains 26 bishops
