  • PSYCHODYNAMIC APPROACH
    • Structure of personality
      • Id- pleasure principle The id is the impulsive (and works unconscious) part. responds directly and immediately to basic urges, needs, and desires. contains libido. want something and wants it immediately (the bad)
      • Ego- reality principle decision-making component of personality. Meditates between id and super-ego. the ego works by reason, whereas the id is chaotic and unreasonable. Would try to do the right thing
      • Super-ego – your angel Causes feelings of your guilt when rules are broken. control the id's impulses, especially those which society forbids, such as sex and aggression. The superego consists of two systems: The conscience and the ego- self. The conscience can punish the ego through causing feelings of guilt.

      • Denial: act like it didn’t happen. Refusal to accept reality to avoid painful feelings.
      • Regression: still influences behaviour but the individual would be unaware. A happy memory.
