- Pathogens + diseases
- Bacteria fungi virus
- Microorganisms are single celled organisms otherwise known as pathogens which causes disease.
- Disease= recognisable symptoms. Physical/ mental/social
- Two ways pathogens cause harm: damage the cell-rupture, inhibit synthesis, break down of wall
- Releasing toxins
- Correlation= change in one variable reflects in a change in another variable
- Interface= a boundary which connects two environments. E.g. internal and external such as skin.
- Skin, Digestive system, gas exchange system
- Skin- if a cut occurs, it provides access for the blood stream. However the skin prevents this by blood clots- prevents it entering blood stream
- Digestive system- food + water may contain pathogens. HCl in stomach + enzymes break down pathogens
- Gas exchange system- air might contain airborne pathogens.
- Thin, Moist,, large surface are with blood supply= enables pathogens to enter
- Skin, Digestive system, gas exchange system
- CHD: genes, sex, age affect it. other factors: high plood pressure, high blood cholestrol, lack of excercise/obesity, diet, alcohol
- Cancer: genes, age. Factors that affect it: diet, smoking, sunlight, alcohol, obesity, diet
- Bacteria fungi virus
- Digestive system- food + water may contain pathogens. HCl in stomach + enzymes break down pathogens
- Gas exchange system- air might contain airborne pathogens.
