  • Different Diseases
    • Viruses
      • Flu
        • Travels through the air in droplets. Can be transferred to objects. No effective treatment like below...
      • Tobacco Mosaic Virus
        • Destroys plant cells. Affects the growth of the plant as the affected area cannot photosynthesise. There is no treatment, and can remain infectious in soil for 50 years.
      • Measles
        • Very contagious and can be spread through coughs sneezes etc. There is no effective treatment, only medicine to boost immune response.
      • Polio
        • Polio can go through water and infect objects. Long-term symptoms can be reduced
      • Rabies
        • This virus is spread through the saliva of infected animals. There is no effective treatment as it is usually fatal.
    • Bacteria
      • Salmonella
        • Caused by eating bacteria from raw or under cooked meat, eggs etc. Symptoms can be treated.
      • MRSA
        • This bacteria is resistant to most bacteria. Many people get it in hospital, but it can be deadly if you are already weak from something else.
      • TB
        • It can affect your lungs. If your immune system is well then it should be able to fight it and stop you getting it.
      • Cholera
        • Can get it by eating contaminated food or drinking bad water. Needs immediate treatment.
      • Meningitis
        • This travels through the bloodstream, and caan be contracted through droplets in the air
    • Protists
      • Malaria
        • Malaria is spread by mosquitoes who carry the parasite. It can be treated by Anti-malarial drugs
      • Leishmaniasis
        • This is caused by the bite of a sand-fly which carries the parasite.
      • Dysentery
        • This is spread because of poor hygiene. The immune system takes about a week to fight it.
    • Fungi
      • Athletes Foot
        • Can be got throughcontaminated surfaces. It thrives in warm moist conditions.
      • Rose Black Spot
        • The spores of this are blown by the wind. They spread after rain. when it drips from leaf to leaf. The disease cannot be prevented or cured.
      • Ash Dieback
        • Spread via windblown spores from infected ash trees. Can only be managed, not treated.
