  • Maths Revision
    • Ratio and Proportion
      • Simplify
        • write a ratio in its simplist form, find an equivalent to the ratio with the smallest possible whole number values.
      • Multiplying and Dividing Ratios
        • multiply/divide by the same numbers
      • Direct Proportion
        • both quantities increse at the same rate
      • Inverse proportion
        • one quantity increase at the same rate another decreases
    • Graphs
      • straight line
        • all equations of straight lines:x = yx = 7y = -1y = 3x + 2y + x = 52y - 3x = 7
      • paralell and perpendicular
        • y = 2x + 3 and y = 2x - 4 are parallel because they both have a gradient of 2
        • perpendicular lines will always cross at right angles
          • You can work out whether 2 lines are perpendicular by multiplying their gradients. The product of the gradient of perpendicular lines will always be -1.
    • Compound measures
      • speed calculations
        • Distance = Speed x TimeSpeed = Distance ÷ TimeTime = Distance ÷ Speed
      • density calculations
        • Mass = Density x VolumeDensity = Mass ÷ VolumeVolume = Mass ÷ Density
      • unit conversions
        • kilo means 1000, so 1 km = 1000 mcenti means 1/100th, so 1 cm = 1/100thmmilli means 1/1000th, so 1 mm = 1/1000th m
    • Trail and Improvement
      • solving cubic equations
        • asked to solve an equation where there is no exact answer
          • Find the answer to the equation x3 – 2x = 25 to one decimal place
    • Data
      • mean
        • add all the values divide by total number of values
          • dont round the answer
      • median
        • write values in order of smallest to largest what number is in the middle?
      • mode
        • value with the most common multiple
      • modal groups
        • modal group is the group with most data in
