- Coastal Processes
- Old Harry - Caves, Arches and Stacks
- 1. Small cracks in the chalk headland are widened through the process of hydraulic action. Due to wave refraction this takes place on both sides of the headland
- 2. The crack widens to form a cave and eventually caves will join to form an arch.
- 3. Over time the power of the sea widens the base and sub-aerial processes weaken the top of the arch. Eventually it will collapse forming a stack. It will eventually topple to form a stump.

- Lulworth Cove
- 1. Hydraulic action causes cracks in the hard Portland stone. Eventually a hole is punched through the barrier.
- 2. Waves quickly erode the Wealden beds and Greensand (soft rock). This widens the cove.
- 3. The final band of rock is chalk, which slows the rate of erosion inland. A steep cliff forms at the back of the cove.

- Spurn Head - Spit
- 1. Prevailing winds approach the shore at an angle and cause LSD
- 2. An estuary or change in shape of coastline causes the spit to extend out into the sea.
