- Restless Earth
- Structure
- Inner Core: Solid - Iron and nickel - 5500 degrees
- Mantle: 2900 Km thick - Semi molten rock (Magma)
- Crust: 60 Km thick - Solid rock - Continental & Oceanic
- Oceanic Crust: Under Oceans - Igneous rock - 6-8 C, thick - 3.3 Density
- Continental Crust: Forms land - Granite - 30-50 Km thick - 2.7 Density
- Plate Boundaries
- Collision:(Eurasian Plates) Rocks on the ocean bed are pushed together, which forms mountains.
- Conservative: (Pacific & N America) Two plates move against each other, causing friction.
- Destructive: (Nazca & S America) One plate [oceanic] is forced under the other [Continental]. Causes friction in the subduction zone and can cause volcanic eruptions.
- ANDESITIC: Low temp - High gas - Less fluid - Explosive
- GRANITIC: Low temp - Viscous - Cools underground
- Constructive: (Eurasian & N America) Plates move apart, magma flows into the gap and cools. Can create volcanic islands
- BASALTIC: Low gas content - Liquid - Not explosive
- Earthquake Management
- Sustainable Buildings & Safety drills
- Supplies, Early evacuation, turn off gas
- Siesometers, Warning systems
- Volcanoes
- Shield: Gently sloping sides - Basaltic - Rarely violent
- Composite: Layers of ash and lava - Steep sides - Andesitic lava
