- Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)
- A group of behavioural symptoms that include inattentiveness, hyperactivity and impulsiveness.
- ADHD tend to be noticed at an early age
- Symptoms of ADHD usually improve with age
- Many adults who are diagnosed with the condition at a young age continue to experience problems.
- ADHD may also have additional problems, such as sleep and anxiety disorders.
- Other factors that have been suggested as potentially having a role in ADHD include: being born prematurely (before the 37th week of pregnancy)having a low birthweight-smoking, alcohol or drug abuse during pregnancy
- Autism
- Symptoms are present before three years of age
- More boys are diagnosed with the condition than girls
- Speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, educational support, plus a number of other interventions are available to help children and parents.
- Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is the name for a range of similar conditions, including Asperger syndrome, that affect a person's social interaction, communication, interests and behaviour.
