  • experimental designs
    • repeated measures
      • all pp complete both conditions
      • - can't always compare
        • - if complete both conditions, 2nd time may get 'order effects'
          • e.g improved  performance = practise effects & reduced performance= fatigue effects
            • counter balance e.g half pp and do a A then B & vise versa
      • + rules out individual differences
        • e.g 2 bits of data per pp so saves researcher Time
    • matched pairs
      • match A to similar person in B
        • e.g bandora and Bobo dolls - children matched on aggression n levels
      • + pp variables can be controlled and no chance of order effects
      • -time consuming
        • -may not find perfect match
          • how do you match etc???
    • independent groups
      • 2 separate groups only complete one
        • e.g autism compared to non autism
      • + compare experiment
        • + no order effects
      • - only collect 1 piece of data per pp
        • - individual differences
