- everything stores energy. the more energy things store the more they can do. energy is measured in joules (j).
- when anything happens energy is transferred (moved) from on place to another. it cannot appear or disappear.

- Energy is not a physical substance. in a chemical reaction, the mass of chemicals before and after is the same, but the amount of energy is different.
