  • Energy
    • all objects have energy
      • energy doesn't change, but is stored and transferred in different ways
      • energy is stored in joules (J)
      • energy can not appear or disappear it can only move
    • all objects can emit and absorb infrared radiation.
    • if the objects are the same temperature, black objects emit radiation more quickly than white surfaces
      • this means black surfaces lose heat and cool down
    • all objects absorb radiation
      • shiny surfaces absorb infrared radiation slower than black matt surfaces.
      • shiny surfaces reflect more infrared radiation than dark surfaces
      • hotter surfaces emit radiation quicker than cool surfaces.
    • objects are absorbing and emitting infrared radiation at the same time.  If infrared radiation is emitted faster than it is absorbed then the objects cools down.
