  • Earthquakes
    • Caused by tension building up in all types of plate margin;
      • Constructive - tension builds along the cracks as the plates move apart
      • Destructive - tension builder where one plate gets stuck as it's moving down past the other
      • Conservative - tension builds when the plates grind past each other and get stuck
    • Plates jerk past each other causing shockwaves (vibrations)
      • Shock waves spread out from the focus - near the focus the waves are stronger and cause more damage
        • Weak earthquakes happen quite often, strong ones are rare
