- A culture is a set of norms, values, beliefs and practices that characterise a community.
- Most commonly compared in psychology over nationalities.
- Look at both the similarities and differences of people in communities
- Culture is considered the Independant variable and the focus of study the dependant variable
- Example :van Ijzendoorn and Kroonenberg 1988 - Strange situation across cultures.
- Useful in helping us to understand what aspects of behaviour are universal and which are a product ofculture.
- It is hard to match samples across the cultures
- There will always be confounding variables
