- Controlling Water Content
- Importance of balancing water level:
- Inputs: Drinks, food and respiration
- Outputs: Sweating, Breathing,Faeces and Urine.
- Kidneys help balance substances in the body
- 1. They filter small molecules from the blood such as water, sugar, salt and waste.
- 2. they reabsorb various things: all sugar, as much salt an water as required.
- 3. whatever is not reabsorbed forms urine.
- Urine isn't always the same:
- 1. External temperature (if you sweat you loose water) when its hot, kidneys reabsorb more water into blood, leaving little urine SO a small amount of concentrated urine is produced.
- 2. Exercise makes you hotter, sweating cools you down, having the same effect as heat.
- 3. Intake of fluids and salts produces concentrated urine (there will be little excess water to 'dilute' the other wastes). Lots of water will produce lots of dilute urine.
