  • Class + Internal Factors
    • Labelling
      • As part of teach-pupil relationships, teachers label pupils and treat them differently according to the label
      • If the label is positive, they will succeed or if it is negative they are more likely to fail
      • Fullers study of black girls suggests negative labels can lead to succession as well
    • Self-Fulfilling prophecy
      • Labelling can lead to a self fulfilling prophecy
      • Positive labels lead to a positive prophecy and succeeding, and the opposite takes place of it is negative
    • Streaming and Setting
      • Setting is sorting ability per class and streaming is sorting by ability for every class
      • Those in higher sets/streams usually do better as they are given more attention and encouragement
      • Allows Students to work at their own pace however students suffer low self-esteem in lower ability classes
    • Pupil subcultures
      • Groups of people who share ideas and behaviour patterns which are different from mainstream culture
      • Can have varying effects on achievement depending on if its a pro-school subculture however it can be hard to predict the effect of subcultures
    • Pupils class identity
      • Looking at identity helps to bring all factors affecting achievement
      • Looks at all factors affecting achievement which can be very complex

Sociology investigates how social class, which is frequently tied to economic issues, impacts access to resources, opportunities, and even one's sense of identity. Internal elements such as personal values, beliefs, and attitudes add to the complicated web of social dynamics. For example, one's socioeconomic status can influence educational possibilities and professional prospects, therefore impacting the course of their life. Internal elements, such as cultural background or personal goals, interact with external structures to shape perceptions and decisions.

Really! Sociology initiates this discussion by investigating how internal causes interact with external structures, resulting in a more complex understanding of class dynamics. It's like revealing the delicate dance between human agency and society systems by peeling back the layers. What are your opinions on the big sociological tapestry's interaction between class and internal factors? Let's keep the discussion going!
