  • Cell Organisation
    • Cells make up all living organisms.
      • Specialised cells form tissues carrying out a function.
        • Organs are made up of different tissues carrying out a joint function.
          • Organ system are groups of organs carrying out a function.
            • Digestive Systems to break down and absorb food.
              • Mouth breakdown food
                • Glands which produce digestive juices.
                  • E.g. Salivary gland which produces amylase enzymes in the saliva.
                  • Liver which produces bile  that emulsifies fats and neutralises stomach acid.
                    • The gall bladder stores bile before it gets released into the small intestine.
                      • The stomach churns up food and has a HCL that kills bacteria  and give the right pH for provides protease enzyme (pepsin) to work.
                        • The pancreas produces protease, amylase and lipase enzymes and releases it to the small intestine.
                          • The large intestine removes excess water from undigested food leaving faeces.
                            • The small intestine moves absorbed food, glucose and ions to blood and has a large surface area.
                              • The rectum and anus get rid of waste food.
          • Stomach
            • Muscular Tissue - moves stomach wall to churn food.
            • Glandular Tissue - makes digestive juices to digest food.
            • Epithelial Tissue - covers outside & inside the stomach.
        • Muscular Tissues - contracts (shortens) to move whatever it's attached to.
        • Glandular Tissue - makes and secretes chemicals like enzymes and hormones.
        • Epithelial Tissue - covers some parts of the body e.g. inside the gut.
