  • Capillaries
    • arteries branch into capillaries
    • capillaries are really tiny
    • then carry the blood really close to every cell in the body to exchange substances with them
    • they have gaps in their walls so substances can diffuse in and out of cells
    • they supply food and oxygen and they take away waste
    • their walls are usually one cell thick, this means that diffusion is very fast because there is only a short distance for molecules to travel
