      • Made from: Adenine, ribose sugar & 3 phosphate groups
    • Carries energy around cell to where it is needed
    • Synthesised from ADP & inorganic phosphate
      • Using energy from a energy releasing reaction
        • E.g. breakdown of glucose in respiration
      • Energy stored as chemical energy in phosphate bond
      • ATP synthase enzyme catalyses reaction
    • It diffuses to part of cell that needs energy
      • Then broken down back into ADP & inorganic phosphate
        • Chemical energy released from phosphate bond & used by cell
          • ADP & inorganic phosphate recycled
            • Process starts again
        • ATPase enzyme catalyses
