- Naming alkenes
- The names of alkenes end in -ene. The number preceeding the -ene indicates the position of the double bond.
- Alkenes can be cyclic compounds.
- An alkene with two C=C double bonds is called a diene.
- Shape of alkenes
- All bond angles around the C=C double bond are 120 sice there are three groups of electrons around each carbon atom (two bonds and one double bond).
- Reactions of alkenes
- Alkenes undergo electrophillic addition reactions.
- Conditions- room temperature and pressure usually
