- action potential B3
- Step one: When the neuron is at rest, it is at -70 mV.
- The inside of the cell is very negative. This is because there is more positive sodium ions outside than in the cell.
- Sodium/ Potassium pump- uses ATP to transport sodium and potassium ions across it's membrane
- Sodium channels are closed
- Step two: The nerve impulseis stimulated by a receptor cell or another neuron.
- This is all due to a stimulus
- Step 4: +40 sodium channels close, K open. K ions diffuse out.
- Step five: Hyper -polarisation
- Potassium channels close more slowly than sodium channels.
- Excess potassium ions diffuse out
- Potential difference more negative than resting potneial
- Potassium channels close more slowly than sodium channels.
- Step 6: re polarisation -
- resting potential restored
- K moves back into cell though non voltage K channels
- Step one: When the neuron is at rest, it is at -70 mV.
