    • Social norms change between cultures and over time. For example before the 1970's homosexuality was seen as a mental illness, but not any more.
    • Cross-cultural misunderstandings are common for example there are high diagnosis rates of schizophrenia amongst non-white british people.
    • Classification of abnormality can only be based on the context in which behaviours occurs for example the same behaviour may be seen as normal or abnormal e.g. ********** in the classroom or the bathroom
