Carbonate ions

1. Add dilute HCl.

2. It should fizz and a colourless gas given off.

The gas is CO2

3. Do a limewater test if it fizzes.

Limewater should turn cloudy.

Sulfate ions

1. Add dilute HCl.

2. It should NOT fizz.

3.Add BaCl2 (Barium Chloride).

A White precipitate is formed

Chloride ions

1. Add AgNO3 (Silver Nitrate).

2. Add dilute HNO3 (Nitric acid).

A White precipitate is formed.

Bromide ions

1. Add AgNO3 (Silver Nitrate).

2. Add dilute HNO3 (Nitric acid).

A Cream precipitate is formed.

Iodide Ions

1. Add AgNO3 (Silver Nitrate).

2. Add dilute HNO3 (Nitric acid).

A Yellow precipitate is formed.
