What are xeriphytic plants?
Plants that have adaptions to prevent water loss by transpiration.
1 of 6
How is the stomata sunk in pits an adaption?
Pits trap water vapour, lowering the water potential gradient.
2 of 6
How is layer of hair on the epidermis an adaption?
traps moist air round stomata - reducing the water potential gradient - slower transpiration.
3 of 6
How is curled leaves an adaption?
traps moist air round stomata - reducing the water potential gradient - slower transpiration. Lowers exposed surface area and protects the stomata from the wind.
4 of 6
How is a reduced number of stomata an adaption?
Fewer places where water vapour can be diffuse out of leaf.
5 of 6
How is thick, waxy layer on the epidermis an adaption?
Reduces amount
