How does Location cause World Poverty?
Partially to do with the climate but mainly about the natural resources such as oil and gold. For example Saudi Arabia has 25% of the world's oil so far discovered, but Sudan, which is S.A's neighbour is very poor as it has far less natural resources

How do Natural Disasters cause World Poverty?
The geographical location of a country can been it is more prone to natural disasters e.g.earthquake. Even though natural disasters hit both LEDCs and MEDCs, LICs don't have the money, resources and expertise to help them recover quickly

How do Politics and Corruption cause World Poverty?
Civil wars can cost the lives of many home-earners and can mean homes and hospitals have been destroued. In unstable countries there are sometimes a few rich people in the government who use the money for themselves instead of benefiting the poor

How does Climate cause World Poverty?
Insufficient rainfall and intense heat (which makes the land arid) mean that the conditions are not right for crop growth and there is not enough water for people to drink. Global Warming is making matters worse as dry regions are becoming drier(v/v)

How does Population Growth cause World Poverty?
It means there are extra mouths to feed in families where there is often not enough to go around. Families tend to have more children to help on the farms and because of the high infant mortality rate. It is mainly due to the lack of contraception

How does World Trade cause World Poverty?
Producers of crops sell their crops at the price other countries will buy them. LICs cannot afford these so they depend on their own produce as well as sell it. Very often LICs buy items from other countries at prices they can't afford- DEBT

The work of Christian Aid:
Provides practical aid for the poor but also publicises the causes of poverty in the world. Their current aim is on Climate Change but they also have campaigns on HIV, conflict, unfair trade, corruption+other issues that affect the 3 bil. in poverty

The work of Islamic Relief:
Muslims support I.R. because they believe Allah would want them to do so. Are keen on empowering people by providing opportunity and skills to lift themselves out of poverty. Believe in a mix of long-term and emergency.

What is Zakah?
Muslims believe wealth is given by Allah for the "good of all humanity" - needs to be shared. 2.5% of a Muslim's earnings is given to charity every year anonymously. Extra giving (known as Sadaqah) is encouraged.

Define stewardship
The belief that humans have a duty to look after the environment and the people in it on the behalf of God. This concept encourages peope to care for each other and rules out exploitation as people are then being treated unjustly

Define justice
Bringing about what is right and fair and making up for what has been done wrong. Makes religious believers encourage fair trade and opposes exploitation as it is not "just"

Define compassion
The feeling of pity that makes people want to help. This encourages a desire to help those who are in a less fortunate situation than ourselves and the feeling of guilt that is produced also makes people want to help the poor

Trade where the producers are exploited by the buyers
