1) multi-store model was too simplistic 2) MSM did not fully explain how information was transferred between parts of the memory through rehearsal 3) doesn't focus on the STM whereas WM puts forward that there is more than one store.

Advantages
1. it appears plausible as it fits in with everyday life therefore giving it high face validity 2. it puts forward the idea that we do not need to rehearse everything told to us in order for it to be stored in the memory

Disadvantage
functions of the most important part of the working memory model (the central executive) are very hard to prove such as the maximum capacity
