What did Marmot do?
7372 civil servants in London completed a questionnaire on work load job control and amount of socail support in relation to cardiovascular disease - 5 years later the PPs were re-assessed

What did he find?
No link between high workload and stress caused illness so job demand not significant factor in stress but found those with low job control more likely to develop heart disease. Other factors such as smoking and job type didn't cause casual realtions

Eval - consequences of work place stress?
Kivimaki et al. carried out a meta analysis of 14 studies including Marmot, looking at relative risk of CHD in association to work place stress - found, employees across Europe, U.S. and Japan = high levels of job strain = 50% more likely of CHD
