It was passed in 1970 and came into force into 1975. It allowed women's wages to increase to 70% of that of men's.

Employers could get around it by making the tasks slightly different and therefore not comparable.

When was the Employment Protection Act passed? What did this involve?
1975 - this introduced paid maternity leave and outlawed dismissal on the grounds of pregnancy. Employers had to give 18 weeks paid leave at 90% of pay.

She steered through reforms to the State Earnings Related Pension Scheme with the Social Security Pensions Act - became more generous to women whose contributions had been limited due to caring responsibilities.

In 1975, this demanded that the government should pay women for work in the home that did not pay a wage, however this was unsuccessful.
