No sex before marriage in order to remain 'sexually pure' for marriage. (Or a weird American name that parents call their daughter in an attempt to keep them a virgin!)

Stresses and strains that occur in every human relationship.

Saying sorry and making up after an argument or conflict.

Being dedicated to someone or something.

The strongest human emotion that can be felt. The emotion that Christianity is based on. Four types (APES).

Actions that you are expected to or have a moral obligation to carry out. Things that you have to do to be a good religious believer. There are responsibilities within marriage, e.g. to pick up the children from school, to be faithful/have fidelity.

Agape
A type of love: unconditional, this love is the basis of Christianity.

The love felt for family and friends.

The sexual type of love.

Sentimental love for objects or pets.

Their partner e.g. husband or wife (commit to be faithful), and to their God through prayer and worship.

e.g. To treat fellow humans with respect and human dignity, to care for our children.

Traditionally, what do Christians believe about sex?
It's a way of becoming intimate with a partner, its part of His creation, its a physical expression of love so pre-marital sex devalues the act and the people involved. R.Cath say 'only in marriage' - sex a sacred gift from God. It's for procreation.

Nowadays, what do Christians more commonly feel about sex?
Some Orthodox/Baptist Christians believe it SHOULD take place in marriage but is permitted in any loving and stable RELATIONSHIP (e.g. cohabiting). Times have changed, contraception means sex can happen without making kids.

Who are three people said to have control over contraception?
Some say the couple, the doctor or their religious leader.

What to Roman Catholics say about artificial contraception?
It is wrong, as it prevents the possibility of new life. However, some are starting to allow condoms/other barrier methods as they prevent STIs.

What methods of contraception ARE permitted by R.Caths?
Natural methods e.g. the rhythm method (only sex when woman is less fertile) as they don't interfere with natural purpose and course of sex.

State the Orthodox/Baptist Christian views on contraception/birth control please!
Sex isn't just about procreation. So contraception is acceptable if the couple isn't financially/emotionally prepared for a child. It allows family planning, benefitting the child's wellbeing too.

What is the Christian view about the morning after pill (MAP)/abortion?
IT IS SOOO WRONG - for Caths, it goes against the commandment "thou shall not kill", because they believe life begins @ contraception. The MAP and abort. destroy God's creations.

Define the term 'celibacy' please.
Choosing to lead a life without any sexual activity. Some have a calling, e.g. Priests, to be celibate. Their role in life is not to procreate but to grow spiritually.

Cohabitation - what is it and why is it getting ever more popular?
When a couple live together but are not married. More people are cohabiting as marriage ceremonies are expensive and so is divorce. Cohabiting can occur pre-marriage as a preparation, or instead of it. Marriage is less important today.

Mahr
The dowry money given to a Muslim man to his bride before the marriage. She can use it as she wishes, and it is non-refundable.

Nikah
The contract drawn out in advance by the couple's families. It sets out the terms and conditions of a marriage, e.g the husband can only have 1 wife. It states how the man must continue to support his wife's previous lifestyle. It states the Mahr.

Walimah
Wedding reception that friends and family attend. The new couple are presented to the public and welcomed to the family. Alcohol is not permitted (haram), but a feast can be enjoyed by men and women separately.

What happens after the walimah, and why is it so important?
The walimah must happen in order for the marriage to be complete and the couple to be permitted to live together.

Civil partnership
An official ceremony that gives same-sex couples the same legal rights as a husband and wife.

Behaviour that is acceptable and correct for a Muslim.

Behavour wrong and forbidden for a Muslim. It may hurt the Ummah (Muslim community) e.g. premarital sex leads to STIs.

A (training) course.

Details vary according to tradition and denomination (e.g. Anglican). R.Caths may inc. nuptial mass, Orthodox brides and grooms have crowns placed on their heads. ALL X weddings have legal, social and religious aspects e.g. in a Church.
