What is respiration?
Catabolic process. Series of enzyme catalysed reactions in cells to release energy e.g ATP
1 of 7
What is the Krebs cycle?
Liberating energy from carbon to carbon bonds to produce ATP and reduced NAD with release of CO2
2 of 7
Glycolysis?
Cytoplasm. Glucose in converted to Hexose phosphate using ATP--> Triose Phosphate forms ATP and reduced NAD to pyruvate.
3 of 7
Link Reaction?
Mitochondrial Matrix. Acetyl co A formed and from pyruvate which forms CO2 and reduced NAD
4 of 7
What is the role of reduced NAD and FAD
Provide electrons and protons to drive the Electron Transport Chain
5 of 7
Why is it an advantage to have pyruvate as an intermediate?
It's small enough to diffuse across the membrane
6 of 7
What is the final electron acceptor in aerobic respiration and anaerobic?
Aerobic- oxygen anaerobic- pyruvate
