Why did Britain follow a Policy of Splendid Isolation?
As she didn't want to get involved in European affairs as she felt sufficiently powerful so didn't need any agreements or alliances with other countries.

To control its large overseas empire, to have a large amount of trade and to protect itself from enemies as Britain is an island so is surrounded by sea.

Russia and France she was concerned about but she is now worried about Germany.

Their royal families are related and it was not a colonial power then so was not seen as a threat to Britain, unlike Britain and Germany.

In 1998, Germany began to build up its navy- caused tension- rivalry, and in 1999, Britain took part in the Boers War- everyone disagreed and sympathied with the Boers. Germany - feelings very clear. All the countries were ganging up against her.

As she realises Germany was rising in power and becoming a world power.- aware of germanys increasing Army and Navy and empire- serious threat.
