(pre-weaving) Sizing
Application of starch or polymers to stabilise warp yarns to reduce breakages.

Oxidation or reduction of the yellow chromaphores in cotton. Typical bleaching agents: hydrogen peroxide, sodium chlorite, sodium hyphochlorite.

Mercerisation
Changing the shape of the cotton fibre (swelling) by impregnating with ~22% sodium hydroxide solution.
