(Hypertext Transfer Protocol) It is a protocol that defines the process of identifying, requesting and transferring multimedia webpages over the internet.

It is an application which runs on a users computer. It is responsible for requesting text and graphics of webpages from servers on the internet.

It provides or delivers web pages and web resources in response to requests from web users.

Webs Hosting
It is a type of internet hosting service that allows individuals and companies to make their website accessible via the WWW. Web hosts are companies that provide space on a web server owned or leased for the use by clients.

FTP
(File Transfer Protocol) It is a protocol for the transfer of files across the internet to web servers. Users can access a server request that a file be downloaded to them or alternatively upload the file to the web server where they are all stored.

ISP
(Internet Service Provider) Is an organisation that provides services for accessing, using or participating in the internet.

Search Engine
It is a web-based tool that searches for information using keywords or criteria. It will retain results as website links based on the criteria provided. Some use a spider or a web-crawler that 'crawls' throught the web and provides a list of pages.

Cache
It allows browsers to download website images, data and documents for faster viewing in the future. A local copy of the information is kept. This means that the browser will be able to load at least some information form each page you have visited.

Cookies
Small files downloaded to a computer when visiting a website. They can store previous activity on that site and user preferences. This informationcan be used when the user visits the site again.

Portal
A website that acts as a main entry point to a group of web services. Portals can require the user to logon and provide a range of services such as email, links to other websites and search engines.

Website
It is a collection of HTML pages linked together on the WWW.

Webpage
A page of information stored on the WWW and can contain sound, video, animation, graphics and hypertext as well as simple text and is viewed using a web browser.
