Weathering and Erosion

?
What are the 4 different types of erosion
Hydraulic action, Attrition, Abrasion, Solution
1 of 8
What is Hydraulic Action?
Water forces air into cracks, blasting away small pieces of rock
2 of 8
What is Abrasion?
Sea picks up rocks and pebbles and hurls them against the cliff face, eroding it.
3 of 8
What is Attrition?
Small rocks and pebbles are rubbed against each other making them smaller and smaller.
4 of 8
What is solution?
Salt water goes in cracks in rocks, water evaporates leaving salt crystals which grow and crack the rocks. If the rocks are alkaline (limestone) then it can be dissolved
5 of 8
What are the different types of weathering
Freeze thaw, Wet drying, Temperature change, Solution
6 of 8
What is Freeze thawing?
Water goes into cracks in rock and freeze. This cracks the rock further, this process is constantly repeated.
7 of 8
What it temperature change?
Rocks expand in heat, contract in cold. this makes small pieces of rock crumble off.
