50% of insolation is absorbed by the earth's surface and released as longwave radiation- infared or heat energy

the other 50% of radiation is split into 3, 25% is reflected back into space by the air and clouds in the atmosphere, 20% is absorbed by air and clouds in the atmosphere, 5% is reflected back into space by the earth's surface
