What do constructive waves do?
They move material up the beach, as the swash is greater than the backwash. This gradually increases the gradient of the beach.

What do destructive waves do?
They comb material back down the beach and gradually reduce the gradient of the beach.

What is wave refraction?
When the direction of the wave is altered by the shape of the sea bed in cases of irregular shaped coastlines. The waves become increasingly parallel to the coastline. This is particularly the case on coastlineswith bays and headlands.
