The water flows over an area of hard rock, followed by an area of softer rock

The collapsing rocks are swirled at the foot of the waterfall, where the softer rock is eroded by corrasion. This forms a deep plunge pool.

What is the seventh stage of waterfall?
Overtime, more undercutting causes more collapses, this makes the waterfall retreat (move back up the channel). This forms a steep-sided gorge
