Describe the events of the Spartacist Uprising.
January 1919 50,000 spartacits rebelled on the streets of Berlin. Leaders, Rosa Luxemburg and Karl Liebknecht were arrested and executed. New government was forced to set up in Weimar. Put down by the Freikorps.

When Hitler was imprisoned he wrote Mein Kampf (my struggle), setting out his beliefs and ideas. His trial helped him become a national figure and gain more support. His tactics changed (to legal means via. the ballot box).

Germany lost 10-13% of its land. German army was reduced to 100,000 men with no reserves and no tanks. Reparations had to be payed to the Allies - set at 6.6 billion in 1921. Article 231 - "War guilt clause" Germany started the war.

Explain the events of the invasion of the Ruhr.
60,000 French and Belgium troops occupied the Ruhr after Germany defaulted on a reparations payment in 1922. Passive resistance was called for, and the mines were flooded. The government continued to pay workers, leading to hyperinflation.
