What is it?
Virtual memory is a feature of an operating system that allows a computer to compensate for shortages of physical memory by temporarily transferring pages of data from RAM to disk storage.

How does it work?
Occurs in the background; the area of the hard disk that stores the RAM image is called a page file e.g. .swp file It holds pages of RAM on the hard disk, and the operating system moves data back and forth between the page file and RAM.

What is it?
RAM is Random Access Memory. It is volatile which means when the computer is switched off, the data is lost.

RAM is used to store currently running programs and data.

How virtual memory is used for RAM.
When RAM runs low, virtual memory moves data from RAM to a space called a paging file; moving data to and from the paging file frees up RAM so your computer can complete its work. It all happens in the background; the area of the hard disk that store
