Then when the loud trumpet gave the signal, all sped forward without delay from their starting positions.

After them, neck and neck, the Pristis and the Centaur strain to gain the better position, and now the Pristis has it, now the huge Centaur overtakes the defeated boat/Pristis,

now both are together and are carried with prows side by side and the plough the salty waters with their long keels.
