SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS
DYSURIA: a burning pain when passing urine
NEW NOCTURIA: passing urine more often than usual at night
CLOUDY LOOKING URINE: urine is cloudy to the naked eye
FEVER: a temperature of less than or equal too 37.9 may indicate pyelonephritis or sepsis

RISK FACTORS
1. Sexual intercourse is the strongest risk factor for developing UTI’s and possible reoccurring UTI’s
2. Post menopause means the absence of oestrogen
3.Family history
4. The presence of a foreign body eg. Catheter

TREATMENT FOR UTI
To ease symptoms;
- avoid having sex
- take paracetamol every 4/6 hours a day to reduce pain
- go to your GP, you may be given a short course of antibiotics
- drink plenty of fluids to pass urine regularly and rest

- Insulin treated diabetes -
- recent use of antibiotics -
- poor bladder emptying -
- increasing age -
