A family that consists of a woman and man who are married and (traditionally) has two children. The man is the 'Breadwinner' and the woman is a housewife, responible for keeping the house clean and cooking. She is also responsible for the children.

What is an Extended Family?
Normally the regular nuclear family with the addition of another realtive (cousin, grandmother etc.) common in poor countries as living away from the exended family is expensive

What is a Single Parent Family?
Consists of only one parent. This may be because of: teenage pregnancy, death of partner, divorce, wanting to be independant.

What is a Reconsituted Family.
A new family that is created after the divorce of a couple who has had children. There is then a second marriage or there may just be cohabitation.

What is a Dual Worker Family?
this is where both parents work. This may be because the women may want to be indepndant and they probably have the correct qualifications for the job they want.

What is an Empty Nest family?
This is a family that was a Nuclear Family but the children have left home and are now independant. this may be because the children want to be independant and they have help from the government (benefit system etc.)

What is Bigamy?
This is when someone has married someone while they are still married to their partner and has not legally divorced. This Is Illegal.

What is Polygamy?
This is when a man has multiple wives at the same time. this is a norm is some cultures.

This is a marriage with only one person at a time.

What is Serial Monogamy?
Several successful short-term marriages over the course of a life time.

When a woman has many hisbands at one time. This is the norm in some cultures.

Cohabitation
Two people who are not married but are living together in a sexual/intimate relationship. This may also be in a long-term/permanent relationship
