What is a Life event?
Something that happens in your life that has an impact on your health and well-being. They can be predictable or unpredictable.

What are predictable life events?
Positive and desirable changes in life that you have some level of control over.

What are unpredictable life events?
Unwelcome events that you have no/limited control over.

What are some examples of predictable life events?
Starting school, leaving school, marriage, formation of a relationship and employment.

What are some examples of unpredictable life events?
Serious illness, accidents, breakdown of relationships, divorce. unexpected death of relatives or friends and redundancy.

What is bereavement?
It is a term used to describe the sense of loss felt when a loved one passes away. Feelings may include sadness, anger and guilt.

What are Hopsons seven stages of bereavement?
Immobilisation, minimisation, depression, letting go, testing, searching and finally internalisation.

What are the effects of bereavements on family members?
Grieving, unfulfilled life, lack of money, loss of companionship, lack of someone to talk to,, feelings of guilt and may become dependent on substances such as drugs.
